Book Tag Thursday: 12 Days of Christmas Tag

I’ve wanted to do this for SO long. Ever since I first discovered the book blogging and bookstagramming world, I’ve really wanted to start doing book tags too but then I’d have to find good ones, and they take time and life got in the way (when does it not?) so I’m only starting now. I’m not 100% sure how dedicating certain types of posts to days works, for example take Book Tag Thursday, like am I supposed to do a new tag every single Thursday, oops because that won’t be possible but I’ll try to do them as many times as I can because they’re fun!

The tag that I’m starting off my blog’s Book Tag Thursday with is the 12 Days of Christmas Tag (yes, we’re back with yet another Christmas-y post!). I found this tag on Zezee’s blog, Zezee with Books and it was created by Lizzie at LizzieLovesBooks!

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

Since it would be incredibly hard, almost impossible, for me to pick just one favorite standalone from all the books I’ve ever read, I’m narrowing this down. I’ll pick from the standalones I’ve read only in this year and only one which doesn’t belong to a series. (So it won’t be from a series of interconnected standalones because that would be half the books I read). Ghosted by J.M.Darhower is a book I read very recently, about 2 months ago or so, but it instantly touched me. I love this book with everything in me and it would undoubtedly be my favorite not-part-of-a-series standalone of this year.

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

I feel like this book will forever remain one of my favorites: The Girl in the Love Song by Emma Scott. And Violet and Miller are undoubtedly my OTP. I love them so much it’s unreal and I’d give anything for them and their story to be real. The fact that their story was so realistic, it might as well have been two real people surely added to the fact. I loved watching them grow and fall in love and fight what they had but always be there for each other no matter what. The passion with which they loved each other is something I can only wish I’ll have someday, even though I probably won’t. Book romances are amazing which is why I always wish I had what the characters have but never more than with Vi and Miller.

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.

In the spirit of threes, What is the best trilogy you have read?

Most series now days are trilogies which makes this question incredibly hard too. I’m picking the trilogies I can think of off the top of my head, which are, The Mafia and His Angel by Lylah James and Hearts of Darkness by Catherine Wiltcher. Both of these are mafia-themed novels but miles apart in everything else, including the characters. TMAHA got me into mafia books a while back and I haven’t looked back since and HoD was my introduction into the dark romance world. I’ve read so many books by Catherine, all mafia-themed, I’m on her ARC and Beta teams and yet HoD remains my all time favorite from her books.

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, What is your favourite series?

Is anyone even surprised that my answer is the VIP series by Kristen Callihan? I adore everyone in that series from the bottom of my heart. Without a doubt, Killian and Libby are my favorite but the others all come a close second. As an aspiring musician, I love everything musician themed so musician romances just seem to call out to me and I end up loving them all.

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favourite Villain/Antagonist?

Ooohh there are so, so, so many mafia men I could pick for this one. Each one is worse than the next but I think I’ll have to go with Remo Falcone from Cora Reilly’s Camorra Chronicles for this one. His own standalone book is Twisted Pride. He’s monstrous in every way you can imagine and meets his perfect match in Serafina. I loved watching him throughout the books, he’s unquestionably my favorite Camorra monster.

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

I don’t read a lot of fantasy world-building type of books but I do read a lot of books like that which are science fiction, dystopian, etc so I’d say my favorite one would be Forsaken by Lisa M. Stasse. It’s the only one I can think of off the top of my head right now since it’s one that thoroughly intrigued me and had me hooked from the very first page. I’ve read many like it though that are futuristic and science fiction-y that I love such as Legend by Marie Lu or Article 5 by Kristen Simmons and so many others.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

Once again, I don’t read a lot of books with animal sidekicks (that I can remember) but the name that instantly popped into my head is Onyx, Raine’s cat from the Runes series. Her and Raine’s banter was out of this world, I loved it. (Especially the fact that the cat was even nice to Torin and loved him but not to Raine)

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

Ha! This would unquestionably be Make it Sweet by Kristen Callihan. I mean, the man can cook! Just reading the book and all the dishes that Lucian could make made me hungry all the time while reading the book.

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

Lexi. Alexa Ballentine. She was badass in Raw (by Belle Aurora) but she reached an unreachable level of badass in Rebirth. She was so badass and strong, I respected and admired her way too much.

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.

How about your favourite leading lad?

Leading lad would mean the main male character in any book which is like asking me my favorite character and that should be impossible to pick but Killian James from Idol by Kristen Callihan just popped into my head. I loved watching him be goofy with his band and worry for Jax and be incredibly charming so the world falls in love with him without him even trying and watching him slowly fall in love with Libby, all the while annoying her of course. Being inside his head was incredible and his willingness to do anything as long as Libby would be happy was something that made me fall even more in love with him (+ the fact that he’s a huge musician and yet ended up singing a song with misdirected meanings without realizing even though everyone else did was so funny).

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence?

Oh my god this is the third time I’ve mentioned the same book but I can’t help it!!! My answer is Idol by Kristen Callihan. Anyone wanna recommend me new musician romances?? I love this book way too much, lord help me.

ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING.

Drum roll please…What is your favourite read of this year?

HA! This is a trick question, right? RIGHT? Because there’s no way I can pick just one favorite book from this entire year. So I’ll pick about 18 books??? These 18 are my top reads for 2021 so far (There’s still a month left in 2021 so there might be a book there that makes it into my top reads!!) The 18 books are: Raw: Rebirth by Belle Aurora, Twisted Games by Ana Huang, The Darkest Temptation by Danielle Lori, The Fine Print by Lauren Asher, The Girl in the Love Song by Emma Scott, Everlast by Alex Grayson, Make it Sweet by Kristen Callihan, Contagious by Emily Goodwin, Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire, Hearts of Darkness by Catherine Wiltcher, The Sinner by Emma Scott, The Boy and His Ribbon by Pepper Winters, Outbreak by Adrienne Lecter, A Kiss of Venom by Beena Khan, When Heroes Fall by Giana Darling, The Takeover by T. L. Swan, Nil by Lynne Matson and finally, Ghosted by J. M. Darhower.

Wow that’s a lot.

Anyway, that’s the book tag for this week! I kind of really enjoyed doing this, which is to say everyone should expect me to do more book tags and very, very often. I know I already mentioned my top reads of this year with the last part of the book tag but it just has the names so I’m definitely doing a full post with these top reads that’s a lot more detailed than this.

Question: Do you enjoy book tags? Have you read (and loved!) any of the books I mentioned in this tag? Tell me about any Christmas traditions you have!

I’m not tagging anyone, but if you see this tag and want to do it, consider yourself tagged by me. And actually tag me in the post so I can see your responses to the questions too!
